She promised herself she would stop as soon as she could. She was hungry and wanted a drink. Her heart sank as the next “town” came into view. The highway speed limit dropped to 45 mph as she passed an abandoned gas station, some dilapidated houses, and a bar. The dirt parking lot had several vehicles in it despite the building looking as though it had been given up on decades prior. She sighed, parking next to a small fleet of motorcycles. As she crossed the threshold of bright outside sun, into the dimly lit bar, she could hardly see. Giving her eyes a moment to adjust, she smelled beer and fried foods. All eyes were on her. Gathering her bravery, she sat on a stool at the bar next to who she assumed were the group that belonged with the motorcycles outside. She ordered a burger with fries and a beer as she began to talk to the bikers. Men with long beards, bandanas, and leather vests, far more jovial than they appeared, asked her questions and answered hers.
